On behalf of the Board of Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu I am delighted to announce the appointment of Helen Leahy as Chief Executive of Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu.

Helen’s experience, expertise and commitment to Whānau Ora will ensure that the operations of the organisation continue to meet its overall strategic objective of ‘whānau rangatiratanga – whānau oranga’.

Helen has held several senior roles in Parliament including Chief of Staff of the Māori Party and Senior Ministerial Adviser for the former Minister for Whānau Ora. Helen is also a member of the Child Youth and Family Modernisation expert advisory panel. Helen was previously employed as Specialist Advisor, Strategy and Influence at Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu and has been acting CEO of Te Pūtahitanga for the last 6 months.

A comprehensive recruitment process was undertaken and Helen was the outstanding candidate. She has a unique blend of skills and leadership that make her ideal for this role.

The Board looks forward to working with Helen to continue the success of Te Pūtahitanga delivering upon the vision of the nine iwi of Te Waipounamu for whānau to write their own futures, to be enabled to succeed in their own whānau plans and aspirations.
