E kore au e ngaro, he kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea
I will never be lost, for I am a seed sown in Rangiātea
RUIA is a unique partnership between three South Island organisations and government, who have created a contestable fund to support rangatahi wellbeing, intergenerational leadership, succession planning and cultural development.
The four parties are:
Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu
Rātā Foundation, and
Ministry for Youth Development.
We have aligned our respective funding criteria and guiding strategies and have agreed to seven universal principles (Pou) to be able to respond to rangatahi aspirations and development in Te Waipounamu. These Pou are:
Whānau Ora – wellbeing within the context of the whānau;
Ngāi Tahutanga and Te Ao Māori – culture and identity;
Mana-Tangata – Leadership and self-determination;
Wānanga – Learning, connectivity, participating;
Te Ao Tūroa – Mahinga Kai, Natural Environment and Sustainability;
Auahatanga – Innovation and Enterprise;
Te Pūtake – Strengthening capability and responsiveness.
The RUIA fund opens on Friday 1 November and closes on Friday 29 November at 12pm (lunchtime).
