About RUIA

RUIA is a unique partnership between Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu and Rātā Foundation that supports rangatahi living in Te Waipounamu, Rakiura and Rēkohu/Wharekauri to be at the centre of decision-making when it comes to initiatives that support their growth and development.

Since 2019, RUIA has nurtured dozens of rangatahi-led kaupapa focused on rangatahi wellbeing, intergenerational leadership, succession planning and cultural development.

Applications for the 2024 funding round are now closed.

“E kore au e ngaro, he kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea. I will never be lost, for I am a seed sown in Rangiātea.”

Who can apply?

RUIA accepts applications from rangatahi, whānau, groups and organisations in Te Waipounamu, Rakiura and Rēkohu/Wharekauri who require support to bring their ideas and/or initiatives for rangatahi aged 12-24 years to life.
